The Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned the nomination of Emmanuel Bwacha, a former Minority Leader of the Senate, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Taraba State.

In a complaint filed by David Sabo Kente, a governorship aspirant, the court upheld the judgement of a Federal High Court in Jalingo, which removed Bwacha as the APC’s governorship candidate in September 2022.

The decision was issued on Wednesday by a five-member panel led by Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The Apex court held that the APC did not conduct any valid governorship primary in Taraba State that produced Bwacha, a member of the Nigerian Senate as governorship candidate.

Speaking on the situation, David Kente, APC governorship aspirant in Taraba state said the Judgment has been delivered and Lawyers to the party in the state are looking at the orders of the Court, if it will be possible to still have primary elections within two weeks as was expected at the lower court.

“If that is possible, the party still has the opportunity to have the primary elections and field a candidate”, according to Kente.

Mr Kente said the party has accessed the situation and it is trying to give direction as to the way forward and also to get the house in order.

Speaking further, Mr Kente said APC in Taraba is a strong party and he is positive that if it is able to sort itself out, the party can make a leeway and win elections.

He added that even though Taraba does not win the governorship election, it can win several other elections if its house is put in order.

The APC guber aspirant who earlier said the landmark judgment has brought hope to the people noted that Tarabans have long been yearning for the opportunity for this judgment and if the party is able to put its house in order, an impact can clearly be made.

He said at the national level, the party is law abiding and would not succumb to rumours.
