Gunmen have invaded Ikare-Akoko community in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo state, killing two security guards in the process.

The gunmen invaded a market and NASFAT School in the community, and killed the two security guards and dismembered their bodies, leaving their remains in the pool of blood.

A source said the bandits attacked the two places in the middle of the night.

The source added that the way and manner the suspected bandits carried out the attack raised the suspicion of ritual killing.

.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the command, Funmi Odunlami, said investigation had commenced into the incident, assuring that the killers would be arrested.

“We have commenced investigation into the incident, and the criminals will soon be arrested” she said.

This is another in the series of attacks on Ondo State from Unknown gunmen who have been hitting and killing people and in most cases melting away without any inkling as to why they have killed people.

Though this attack according to eyewitnesses bore the hallmarks of a ritual killing investigation by Police detectives will unravel the mystery behind this latest attack in Ikare Akoko.

The State has done its bit through the introduction of the Western Nigerian Security Network popularly known as the Amotekun Corps.

The State has also equipped the Corps and consistently added more to its manpower as the needs arise, though it has not made the State immuned to attacks from hoodlums and even terrorists.

The most high profile of such attacks was the attack on the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo where over 30 persons were slaughtered after an IED’s and Gun attack on worshippers by terrorists who the Federal Government through the ministry of Interior have tagged operatives of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum has been in the forefront of the call for states to have a greater say in the Security of their immediate environment.

He has also called for the operatives of Amotekun and similar outfits across the country to be equipped with better weapons as opposed to what they currently carry around.
