Stakeholders from the South West have called for deeper collaboration among governors in the region to accelerate development and strengthen economic integration.
They made the call at the South West Leaders’ Dialogue organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in Akure, Ondo State, with the theme: “Strengthening Democracy through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future.”
The event brought together political leaders, state governors, serving ministers, heads of agencies, traditional rulers, and representatives of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.
In his opening remarks, the host governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, described the dialogue as a vital platform for regional cooperation and inclusive growth. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing what he called bold and transformative economic reforms.
Also speaking, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of regional integration, noting that shared planning and collective vision are essential to the South West’s prosperity.
Other speakers, including ministers, presented sectoral progress reports, while a representative of Afenifere urged leaders to prioritise people-centred development and accountability across the region.
The general consensus among participants was clear — stronger collaboration among South West states is critical to achieving sustainable growth and ensuring a united front for regional development.
