Sokoto CP launches 'X-Squad' to boost fight against banditry

Sokoto state commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel has launched an anti violence Quick Reaction striking Force of the Command codename ‘X-SQUAD’

He said the Squad will serve as additional force to respond to emergencies and complement the existing tactical units.

The commissioner in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman ,DSP Sanusi Abubakar revealed that the squad will work with the native and intelligence community to implement strategy that will rid the state from all forms of criminal activities and keep away criminal elements.

He said the Squad will also be saddled with the mandate to checkmate unprofessional attitude, brutality and other misconduct among personnel inline with best practices of policing agenda.

Mr. Abubakar said the commissioner also embarked on operational tour to inspect the troubled eastern senatorial district of the state to include, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Rabah and Wurno.

Also visited for on the spot assessment include Kwanar Maharba, Kai Ka Zaka, Unguwar Lalle and Tsamaye in Sabon Birni axis being one of the notorious points for bandits ambush/ attacks in recent times

The command spokesman said the tour is to review the existing strategies and reinforce the location with a more operational facilities that can safeguard citizens plying the road.

He said the commissioner engaged personnel during the visit and tasked them on the need to improve operational activities and work together under one umbrella of restoring peace and security in the general area.

Commissioner Gumel also commended all community efforts, sacrifices and dedication especially by the traditional institutions and non state actors to the ongoing operation against banditry and other related crimes .

He held a meeting with critical stakeholders at various communities and assured them of the ongoing effort to tackle insecurity bedeviling the state.

He also visited Rabba local government and visited the Internally Displaced Persons in Gandi and present them with some items while assuring them that efforts are ongoing to restore peace and security in all the trouble areas of the state.
