The Nigerian Senate has asked the executive to send a supplementary budget to it for the immediate funding of vaccines and immunization programmes to cover shortfalls in the 2017 appropriation for such matters.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Primary Health and Communicable Diseases, Mao Ohuabunwa disclosed this while receiving a delegation of international health organizations.
Chief executive of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations, Seth Berkeley and representatives of the World Health Organization complained about the low coverage rate for measles and yellow fever vaccination among other child killer diseases.
They added that Nigeria needs urgent intervention in its primary health system.
