The executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commiserated with his Niger State counterpart, Governor Muhammed Bago and the people of Niger State over the tanker explosion that reportedly claimed the lives of over 35 people and left 17 people hospitalised.  

This was disclosed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Sanwo-Olu expressed sympathy to the families of the victims who were affected during the unfortunate incident.

Sanwo-Olu said, “It is with a heavy heart that I read and follow. The development of the disaster that happened yesterday along the Bida/Agaie highway in Niger State, following the explosion of a petrol-laden tanker that reportedly claimed about 35 persons.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with my brother, Governor Mohammed Bago, the Government and the people of Niger State, as well as the deceased families and victims of the sad incident.

“I pray for the repose of the deceased and ask that the Almighty God grant the families of the victims the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. I wish those receiving treatment a quick recovery.”

TVC previously reported that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, which reportedly claimed about 38 lives.

In a condolence message signed by its Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Forum commiserated with the government and people of Niger State, particularly the families of the victims and Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the incident as a devastating tragedy and a stark reminder of the urgent need to strengthen safety measures and regulatory enforcement in the storage and transportation of combustible materials nationwide.
