The Controversy generated by the alleged diversion of the FIFA Goal project is still very much in play with a member of the House of Representatives criticising the delay in the proposed probe of the issue by the House.
He criticised the delay in the investigation into the alleged misuse of $25 million in grants from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), more than two months after the House resolved to probe the matter.
The House Committee on Sports is yet to submit its report, despite a resolution arising from the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance at plenary last year.
The motion, titled “Motion to Stop Further Misuse of FIFA and CAF Grants by the Nigerian Football Federation,” was co-sponsored by Adedayo Adesola, who represents Apapa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, and Felix Nwaeke, who represents a constituency in Rivers State.
Adesola had argued that the alleged mismanagement of grants from the global football bodies was largely responsible for the recent poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams.
