President Bola Tinubu has met with Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City in Rome, Italy.
The meeting marks a significant moment in diplomatic and interfaith relations between Nigeria and the Holy See.
President Tinubu arrived in the Vatican on Saturday following a formal invitation from the Vatican to attend the historic event.
The president is also expected to join other world leaders and dignitaries at a solemn mass marking the beginning of the pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the 267th Bishop of Rome and the newly elected leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Upon his arrival, President Tinubu was hosted to dinner by His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State to the Vatican.
The President said The engagent was marked by a spirit of fraternity and a shared vision for the future, focusing on common values such as peace, mutual respect, and global solidarity.
He also expressed Nigeria’s deep appreciation for the Vatican’s longstanding goodwill and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation in an increasingly polarised world.
