Police read riot act to politicians ahead Ekiti 2018

Image result for Ekiti 2018 contendersSecurity agencies in Ekiti State have read the riot act to politicians as campaigns for the July 14 Governorship poll take off next Sunday.

The warning was issued at a meeting at the Police Headquaters in Ado Ekiti attended by political parties sponsoring candidates in the coming Governorship Election and the heads of all security agencies in the state.

TVC News Correspondent, Akin Ogunmola reports that Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, the host of the meeting set the tone for discussion urging the parties to conduct themselves within the electoral act or face the law.

Director of State Security Service in the state also spoke in the same vein saying the activities of all the political parties are being monitored and warned against the use of thugs.

Representatives of the political parties present noted the absence of any representative of the Independence National Electoral Commission at the meeting.

They expressed the fear that the security agencies in the state might not be able to resist pressure from above.

Security of journalists during the campaigns and on election day also came up for mention.

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe closed the meeting by announcing that another meeting between security agencies in the state and the political parties sponsoring candidates in the July 14 Governorship Election as well as INEC would hold next Thursday.
