The Niger state police command has refuted claims that bandits attacked a military check point at Zuma rock in Suleja area of the state.

This is based on social media posts claiming that DPO/DSS operating in Rafi Local Government Area affirmed the massive influx of bandits into Niger state via Birnin Gwari area.

In a statement made available to journalists the Niger state police public relations officer DSP wasiu Abiodun describes the claims are false and misleading.

He further stated that curfew was not imposed in kagara, Rafi Local Government council as people are allowed to go about their normal activities.

In the statement the new commissioner of police in charge of the command
CP Ogundele Ayodeji enjoins members of the public to disregard such fabricated report and continue with their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation.

The state has been relatively calm with strings of victories recorded by joint security operations in the state.

Insecurity has risen in Niger State in the last few months following Bandit attacks, Terrorism, Cattle rustling and Other vices including Kidnapping for ransom.

Kagara one of the locations mentioned as being under curfew which has now been refuted by the Niger State Police Command is home to the Government Science Secondary School Kagara where dozens of students were abducted in 2021 by bandits.

Bandits have also kidnapped students of an Islammiya School around the same area in 2021 with the students numbering over 40 released a few weeks later allegedly after the payment of ransom.

Activities of Terror groups have also increased around Niger State especially around the Kainji area with attacks on Military Checkpoints by Terrorists suspected to be members of the ISWAP and Boko Haram Terror group.

Terrorists have also in recent times staged cross border attacks from Kaduna and Zamfara States both Neighbouring States to Niger.

The State government has also stepped up efforts aimed at containing these activities and Security threats.
