Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, have fanned out across area councils and polling units to provide security for the ongoing FCT elections.

The deployment is part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls, as well as strict enforcement of the restriction of movement announced ahead of the exercise.

Police authorities say personnel have been strategically stationed in communities to protect voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials throughout the voting process.

As provided in the Electoral Act 2022, the Nigeria Police Force is the lead agency in electoral security management, with responsibility spanning the pre-election, election day and post-election periods.

At the Model Secondary School in Maitama, electoral officers were seen setting up at three designated polling units in preparation for voting.

Armed police officers were also on standby at the venue to forestall any likely breakdown of law and order.

As of the time of filing this report, no voters had arrived at the polling units.
