Police in Zamfara State has arrested two suspected Gun runners and intercepted two Locally made guns and a vehicle along Gusau / Funtua highway.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team attached to the Department of Operations while on routine stop-and-search patrol between Kotorkoshi and Tazame areas along Gusau–Funtua Highway.
A press statement signed by the Zamfara police public relations officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar said One Samaila Na’ibi of Kuya Village in Bungudu Local Government Area of the State, was arrested in possession of two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed in a sack hidden in a Golf vehicle with registration number ABUJA KUJ 893 CK.
The statement adds that vehicle was impounded, while the suspects and the recovered exhibits were taken into custody at the Kotorkoshi Divisional Police Headquarters.
The suspects and exhibits according to him will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation, after which appropriate legal action would be taken.
The Zamfara Police Command again reassured the public of its firm resolve to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms and other criminal activities in the State.
