Persons living with disabilities in Lagos state have set agenda for the incoming governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as he prepares to assume office.
The Physically challenged persons want an inclusion in state policies especially at the grassroots.
In collaboration with the British council, the group seeks to ensure vulnerable persons have access to justice and improve their level of engagement with relevant government agencies.
According to the World Health Organisation, about 15% of the world’s population live with one form of disability or the other and the prevalence is higher for developing countries.
In Nigeria, it is said that persons with disability make up 24 million of country’s population.
Although Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s contribution to the welfare of persons living with disability was applauded, they want the incoming government led Mr Babajide Sanwoolu to achieve these goals:
1.Attack poverty among people living with disability
2. promote enterprise rather than charity or sympathy
3. restructure the Lagos state office for disability affairs(LASODA)
