The people of Nembe City held a protest at the AITEO flow station, an indigenous oil company operating OML 29 at Nembe Creek oil field. They want the company to implement the outstanding General Memorandum Of Understanding and the ten percent community equity participation in the divestment of the Nembe Creek Oil Field.

Ovieteme George  reports that Women and the youth led what they call a peaceful protest to the AITEO flow station along the creeks of Nembe.

While the weak and the elderly sat in the premises of the company, their younger kinsmen chanted songs of dissatisfaction giving reasons for the occupation of the facility.

The Ijaw Youth Council wants the company to implement the terms of the contract agreement with the host community. A field superintend of the company addresses journalists in his office.

AITEO GROUP reacts

Meanwhile, AITEO GROUP has reiterated her commitment to continue to work with host communities to achieve amicable relationship.

A statement from the Media Unit of the company says the Nembe Community provides most of the supply, logistic and security contracts going into their local operations.

The company adds that it will continue to provide considerable amenities and services directly to the community in a most beneficial and impactful way and remains open and committed to constructive dialogue for the development of both the nation and the community.

It appeals to the Nembe Community to patiently await the final outcome of ongoing processes initiated to implement sustainable development for all parties.
