The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to improve welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces and increase funding for security agencies, as Nigeria marked the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, said enhanced welfare and adequate resourcing were essential to enable security personnel effectively combat insecurity and restore peace across the country.
Turaki extended condolences to the families of Armed Forces personnel who lost their lives in active service while defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He described the fallen servicemen and women as heroes who paid the supreme price for the continued existence of the nation, and urged all actors, state and non-state, to refrain from actions capable of destabilising the country.
The PDP chairman said the sacrifices of the Armed Forces should serve as a reminder of the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding national unity and security.
He prayed that the deaths of the fallen personnel would not be in vain and that their service to the nation would never be forgotten.
