Fear and anxiety continue to mount among political parties in Oyo state, over the local council polls scheduled for February the 11th.
This is as a result of a recent ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which granted the prayer of a team of village heads, restraining the state’s electoral umpire from going ahead with the election.
But Party representatives who spoke with TVC News correspondent Olutayo Famous Cole say they want the polls to go on as planned.
Council polls were last conducted ten years ago in Oyo state. But the state government surprised doubting Thomases when it picked February 11th as date for the much anticipated polls.
It also went ahead to create 35 local council development areas to complement the existing constitutional 33 Local government.
A recent court order instigated by some village heads in the state might have put plans on hold.
The creation of 35 new LCDAs is also a source of concern to the opposition. They claim that the current arrangement was capable of promoting boundary disputes across the state.
What political watchers want is for the state’s electoral umpire to maintain a neutral stance in the conduct of the exercise.
Others also want the ruling party to match its word with action by ensuring that the polls hold on February the 11th as announced.
