The Oyo State Government has honoured the victims who lost their lives during the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting their families.

In a post on its official X account on Wednesday July 15, 2026, the state government expressed gratitude for the safe return of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers but said it was important to remember those who paid the ultimate price during the incident.

“While we express gratitude for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA, we also wish to honour those who lost their lives,” the government stated.

It added, “We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We commit to supporting them during this trying period. May their souls rest in peace.”

The civilians were identified as Michael Oyedokun, Deacon John Olaleye, Joel Adesiyan and Oluwasegun Akanni.

Those listed under military and security personnel include Lieutenant F. A. Isaac, Adigun Saibu, Isa Saliu, Rafiu Ayuba and an unnamed soldier.

Thus far, 31 of the rescued victims were discharged from the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso on Tuesday, while nine remain under medical care. The nine include eight children and one adult.

The Chief Medical Director of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr Olawale Olakulehin, says the hospital will provide post-discharge support for victims of the Oriire abduction through home visits by medical social workers, paediatricians and psychologists where necessary.

The state government affirmed that it remains committed to standing by the families of the deceased while continuing efforts to strengthen security and protect lives across the state.
