Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has voiced strong optimism that spiritual backing and popular support will secure him a second term in office.

The governor made the remarks on Monday during a New Year interfaith prayer programme held at the State Secretariat, which drew labour leaders, religious authorities and public servants from across the state.

Adeleke said his administration had weathered significant trials since assuming office and expressed confidence that similar resilience would see it through the challenges associated with the upcoming governorship election.

Reflecting on his three years in office, the governor attributed the survival and progress of his administration to faith and perseverance.

“Our God has remained our sustainer, defender and protector. From the very beginning, He has fought our battles for us. Those who rise against us are confronted by a higher power,” he said.

He described his tenure as evidence of what he termed divine intervention, noting that his government had triumphed over difficulties that once seemed overwhelming.

“We are living proof that God rules in the affairs of men. Time and again, we have overcome challenges and emerged victorious. As God remains the same yesterday, today and forever, we shall continue to prevail and remain undefeated,” Adeleke stated.

The governor also highlighted what he described as measurable achievements recorded under his leadership, stressing that his administration had remained focused on policies that directly benefit citizens.

“From my first day in office, we prioritised programmes that directly impact the lives of our people. Three years on, we have kept faith with Osun residents and honoured our promises,” he said.

Adeleke outlined initiatives targeting elderly citizens, assistance for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of critical road and bridge infrastructure, empowerment programmes for artisans, as well as reforms in the education and health sectors.

He further said his government was steadily tackling inherited salary and pension arrears, despite doubts expressed by critics.

“Under very difficult circumstances, we are addressing half-salary payments and pension backlogs which some claimed were impossible to resolve. We have ensured that Osun resources work for Osun people and created a more enabling environment for investors,” the governor added.

Earlier, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, pledged organised labour’s support for Adeleke’s re-election, saying workers would vote overwhelmingly for him in the August 8, 2026 governorship poll.

Religious leaders at the event also offered prayers and goodwill messages. The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, alongside the Osun State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr John Adeleke, praised the governor’s public demonstration of faith and prayed for divine wisdom to help him address the state’s challenges and succeed in his re-election bid.
