The Oodua Youth Coalition, a socio-cultural youth group has thrown its weight behind the resolution of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to ground activities at the country’s airports.

NANS leadership had at a news conference held in Akure, resolved to ground the airspace from Monday.

According to a statement issued by the president of the group, Oluyi Tayo, the lingering strike has affected over 5,000 members of the group

Oluyi enjoined all members of Oodua Youth Coalition to join the protest in their respective states, stressing that
education should be a right and not a privilege

The statement added, “It is no longer news that university students have been at home for more than six months over what seems to be an irreconcilable disagreement between the federal government of Nigeria and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“The industrial action however legitimate in the context of workers struggle has left the fate of many Nigerian students hanging in the balance by the inconsiderate dispositions of the parties involved.

“The new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students under the leadership of Comrade Usman Barambu and Vice President (External Affairs) Comrade Akinteye Babatunde has since their emergence consulted with many consolidated efforts, critical stakeholders in the Nigerian Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities pleading that both parties find a common ground of agreement for the sake of the Nigerian Students whose time is wasting away.

“After all efforts to plead with the critical stakeholders have met the brick wall, the NANS Leadership have since declared a clampdown on the major roads across the country in protest against the industrial action and will extend the protest to air spaces across the federation tomorrow, 18th September, 2022.”
