Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) today joined their counterparts nationwide in a one-day protest to press home their demands.
The lecturers expressed disappointment that more than two years into the present administration, the Federal Government is yet to address critical
issues affecting the education sector.
FUTA ASUU Chairman, Professor Pius Mogaji, lamented that despite repeated appeals, government has failed to meet their long-standing demands.
These include the full implementation of the 2009 ASUU-Federal Government Agreement, sustainable funding for universities, revitalization of the education system, and payment of outstanding salary arrears ranging between 25 and 35 percent.
Professor Mogaji warned that unless concrete steps are taken at the union’s next meeting with government, lecturers may have no choice but to embark on an indefinite strike.
