The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged government institutions and community stakeholders to strengthen efforts to protect Nigerian children from sexual exploitation and abuse, stressing that safeguarding young people must be backed by research-driven policies rather than mere declarations.
In a message marking the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, commemorated globally on 18 November, Mrs Tinubu said the theme of this year’s observance — “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making” — reflects the urgent need for data-guided action.
She noted that for Nigeria to ensure that every child grows up “free from fear and harm,” all stakeholders must work collectively.
She called on government agencies, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, parents, and young people to help build a safer environment where children can thrive without fear.
“Protecting children must go beyond words and good intentions. It demands informed action, guided by accurate data, research, and sound policies,” the First Lady said.
Mrs Tinubu concluded her message with a prayer for divine protection over all Nigerian children.
