Men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun State Command have intercepted and
seized smuggled items with duty paid value of more than sixty-two million
naira during the Christmas season.

Briefing journalists about the recent achievements of the command, the State Comptroller, Sani Maidugu, said the seized items included 14 fairly used exotic vehicles, popularly known as Tokunbo, 9 vehicles used in conveying prohibited items, 391 bags of rice, shoes, bags and electronics.

He said the smugglers have devised new methods which they now use in concealing and conveying prohibited items.

He noted that they now use buses to disguise as transport vehicles with
fresh vegetable or trucks conveying empty drums, whereas they must have
concealed many bags of rice underneath.

Among the achievements of the command, the Comptroller declared a modern office complex of the command open on behalf of the Comptroller general of Customs.

The Comptroller assured Nigerians that the command will not relent in ensuring that duties meant for the federal government are paid, warning that smugglers caught will face the full weight of the law.
