He was sworn into office during the national delegates congress of the Union, which held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He replaces Igwe Achese who held the position for eight years.

The new NUPENG President will be directly assisted during his 4-year tenure by two deputy Presidents, Solomon Kilanko and Bassey Harry amongst other officials.

Meanwhile the NUPENG Congress, which held at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt, focused on the impact of technology on industrial relations in the country.

Discussions about the controversial minimum wage for Nigerian workers also took center stage.

The new executive of NUPENG led by Williams Akporeha has in the meantime promised to tackle a number of other anti-labor practices.

Some of these include casualization of workers, outsourcing and massive retrenchments in the oil and gas industry.
