The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that it is set to approve Nigeria’s official Flag Football Federation, with elections for new executive members scheduled to take place immediately after the federation’s inauguration.
In a statement by the S.A, Media, Office of the Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Kola Daniel, on Tuesday, December 2, the NSC clarified that, until now, no association—national or international, has been officially recognized to represent Nigeria in any international flag football competition.
The Commission emphasised that no group currently holds the authority to act on behalf of the country in the sport.

The NSC stressed that, under Nigerian law, it alone has the statutory power to recognize, approve, and regulate sports federations, including those for flag football.
Speaking on the ongoing process, the Director General of the NSC said: “The National Sports Commission is currently engaging all stakeholders in Flag Football regarding the finalization of a unified national federation.”

He added, “NSC values the contributions of all groups and is committed to an inclusive governance structure that aligns with international standards and Nigeria’s sports development objectives.”
The Director General further noted, “The process of recognition is ongoing and no decision has been finalized.”
The Commission reassured athletes, coaches, organizations, and international partners that the forthcoming Flag Football Federation will be founded on transparency, inclusiveness, and global best practices, ensuring proper representation of Nigeria in international competitions.
Details on the election timetable, membership requirements, and transitional arrangements are expected to be released in the coming days.
