The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC has picketed a Lagos-based factory, Spring Feeds limited, for refusing to compensate a worker, who lost his arm on duty since April, 2022.

These are members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, who took out time to picket Spring Feeds limited, over a factory accident involving a worker in April.

This is a fallout of a TVC News story on a 22-year-old boy, Adekunle Shokunbi, who had his right arm amputated, due to an accident at the factory, where he worked for more than 6 months.

The Chairperson of NLC in Lagos State, Funmi Sessi, said this is her second visit to the factory, having led union members to the company’s premises for consultation and verification in the past.

Sessi explained that the action is necessary to ensure that the victim gets justice.

TVC News crew made efforts to reach management of Spring Feeds, allegedly managed by one Mrs Seriki.

The state chapter of NLC insists that relevant safety bodies must recertify all factories operating in the state, to ensure that they are fit to operate.

The issue of workplace safety in Nigeria is one that has pitted the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Officials of the Ministry of Labour and Employment against each Other.

This has led many observers to ask the Federal Government of Nigeria, State Governments and all monitoring agencies established under the various Ministries of Labour and Employment at both State and Federal Level to do more to address issues of workplace safety and compensation for victims of industrial accidents.

Observers have also identified poor training and lack of the required level of expertise as being responsible for some if not most of the industrial accidents in most factories in Lagos and Other parts of the Country.

This according to observers will ensure that cases like that of Adekunle Shokunbi becomes a thing of the past.
