The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has cautioned non-Nigerians resident in the nation to avoid any electoral activity or risk being detained ahead of the 2023 General Election.

Issa Dan-Suleiman, Comptroller of Immigration for Oyo State Command, issued the warning while meeting with stakeholders in Ibadan.

The Oyo state command of the Nigerian Immigration service has organised a stakeholder’s engagement ahead of the 2023 General election.

In attendance were migrants from countries under the Economic Community of West Africa States who reside in different parts of Oyo state.

The Comptroller said nationals of ECOWAS countries with genuine travel documents have rights to reside in any part of the country and to carry out their legitimate businesses, but they have no voting rights.

Some of the migrants commended the Nigerian Government for the engagement and they pledged that they would not violate the law.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the interactive session, the Oyo state Comptroller said his men have seized 18 voter cards from foreigners in the country.

He advised immigrants without valid travel documents to process it on time or risk arrest and deportation.
