Two Nigerian players, Dorcas Adesokan and Clement Krobakpo, have been scheduled to take part in a training tour organised by the Badminton Confederation of Africa from October 26 to 29 in Cairo, Egypt.

According to the president of Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih,  the continental body decided to organise the tour  to train players from member countries as part of the build-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

Orbih told our correspondent that the training would feature other players from other African countries. The president said Adesokan and Korbakpo were selected  due to their performances at the All Africa Badminton Championships  in South Africa in April.

“It’s a good development for Nigerian players to be considered by the BCA for such your. It will keep our players in good shape and help them to be abreast with the new developments in the sport,” he said.

“The training tour will be on a regular basis,  and as a federation, we will continue to ensure that our players get to attend competitions, which will put them in good stead before the Tokyo 2020 Games qualifiers.”

Adesokan said  she was delighted to have been  selected for the tour.

She said, “It was not something I expected and I am grateful to God for making this happen. I hope that we get more of international tours like this. However, we need the support of private organisations to ensure that Nigeria catches up with countries like South Africa in the sport.”
