Image result for Nigeria holds summit to curb farmers, herdsmen clashThe recurring clashes between farmers and herdsmen are the result of the failure of governance at various levels, the Sultan of Sokoto made this remark at a forum on security In Abuja.

Sifon Essien reports that clashes between farmers and herdsmen have left thousand dead and a larger number of displaced persons in Nigeria.

Worse hit are States in the North Central region particularly Benue and Kaduna. The consequences are enormous.And experts say a food crisis looms.

This security forum in the capital Abuja seeks to proffer solution to the clashes since their threats to security are now rated next to the insurgency in the North East.

The security summit is the second in the series.And the Sultan of Sokoto wants it to be the last.

He worries that political and traditional leaders are not sincere in their contributions towards solving the problem.

Samuel Ortom is the governor of Benue,one of the states worst affected by the clashes.

To make matters worse, the police chief laments that there are serious challenges confronting the police in its bid to live up to its statutory responsibility.

But at the end of the day, the problem lingers.
