Nigeria earned a total of N35.56 trillion as revenue from tax between 2011 and 2018. Thats according to latest data from the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
A breakdown of the N35.56tn tax collection showed that N17.97trillion was earned during the eight-year period from Petroleum Profit Tax. This is an equivalent of 50.53 per cent of the entire revenue generated during the eight-year period.
From non-oil tax, the federation earned about N17.59tn representing 49.47 per cent of the tax revenue for the period under review.
The Executive Chairman, FIRS, Babatunde Fowler,SAYS the service would this year surpass the N5.3tn revenue generated in the 2018 fiscal period new series of reforms to make it easier for tax payers to pay their taxes.
