The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has launched the 2018 annual report that reflects the achievements made during outbreaks in the past year.
The launch of the document took place during a reception organized for the minister of health in Abuja.
Tvc’s Kemi Balogun reports that important collaboration between critical public agencies during outbreaks were key to curtailing spreads when diseases like Lassa fever, Ebola and monkey pox took centre stage.
In the past four years, Nigeria has battled to curtail several episodes of different outbreaks.
The largest outbreak of Lassa was in 2019 with more than 2000 suspected cases, 554 confirmed positive cases, and more than 100 deaths
across 21 states.
Heads of public agencies are gathered for this launch of the 2018 NCDC report and a warm reception organized for the minister of health to
highlight achievements made during the past four years of this present administration.
Critical areas of surveillance, raising awareness and improving laboratory capacity remain the strength to dealing with epidemics in a tropical
country with a population of close to 200 million people.
