NEMA ARRIVES BAYELSA WITH RELIEF MATERIALS FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says the difficulties of flooded roads and focus on the first affected states in the north and East delayed the distribution of relief materials to Bayelsa State and their southern counterparts.

This was disclosed at the presentation of relief materials to the state government by the representatives of the agency in Yenagoa.

With well over 300 communities displaced by the floods, Bayelsa experienced arguably the most devastating effects ever in the state.

Amidst calls for the Federal Government’s intervention, Representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency, arrive in Yenagoa.

The NEMA DG, Represented by the Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Edward Adedokun, reels out the relief materials already on the ground as he empathizes with the people of The State.

Asides from the official presentation of the relief materials to the state, the level of impact it will have on the over 1 million persons affected by the flood disaster was also accessed.

The food items presented include 1,000 bags of rice, bags of beans, and bags of maize, all sourced from the National Strategic Reserve Stock by the federal government.

 

The arrival of the relief materials and its presentation to agents of the Bayelsa State Government by the National Emergency Management Agency will serve to ease off tension between the State and the ministry of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs over the floods in the State.

There has been a brewing controversy between the Bayelsa State Government, Stakeholders in the State on one hand and the Minister of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, over a Statement She reportedly made saying the State is not one of the most affected States by the Floods.
