The Nigerian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command has scored a huge victory in its ongoing efforts to combat maritime crime, intercepting a large wooden boat suspected of transporting stolen crude oil.

This success demonstrates the Navy’s persistent dedication to safeguarding the country’s economic interests.

For years, smugglers have wreaked havoc in Nigeria’s riverine areas, engaging in illicit trade of the country’s petroleum products.

To combat this, the Nigerian Navy launched Operation DELTA SANITY to crackdown on maritime crime and economic sabotage.

The operation, flagged off by Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, on the 30th of December last year, is yielding positive results as the Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE on the 7th of January 2025 intercepted a large wooden boat, at an ExxonMobil oil platform, which is approximately 23.9 nautical miles seaward of the Imo River entrance.

Speaking at the Forward operating Base IBAKA, the Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE, highlighted the significance of the operation and the Navy’s commitment to combating maritime crime.

The Nigerian Navy has warned crude oil thieves and other criminal elements, and promised to deal decisively with those involved in economic sabotage.
