MSSN Lagos Hails Team Nigeria’s World Spelling Bee Victory, Urges Students to Pursue Excellence

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, has commended Team Nigeria for its outstanding performance at the World Spelling Bee Championship in China, where the country won a historic Gold Award.

In a statement, the Amir of MSSN Lagos, Dr. Kamorudeen Ajibola Bashiru, described the achievement as a testament to the power of knowledge, discipline and integrity.

He said the feat demonstrates that dedication and hard work can open doors to global recognition, adding that the society is particularly proud that Muslim students were among those who brought honour to Nigeria.

“We are particularly delighted that Muslim students, including a young sister, Maryam Yusuf, were among those who brought this honour to our nation, proving that faith, excellence and global competitiveness can go hand in hand,” he said.

The commendation coincided with the commencement of the Society’s annual Holiday Training Course (HTC) across Lagos State.

Encouraging students participating in the programme, Dr. Bashiru urged them to pursue excellence with sincerity, uphold Islamic values with confidence and strive to become worthy ambassadors of Islam wherever they find themselves.

Speaking on the significance of the holiday programme, he said this year’s theme, ‘The Credible Maestro,’ focuses on leadership founded on mastery, integrity, competence and trustworthiness.

According to him, the Holiday Training Course remains one of the Society’s most impactful initiatives for raising spiritually conscious, intellectually sound and morally upright Muslim students.

“It is where knowledge is acquired, character refined, skills developed and brotherhood strengthened,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Holiday Training Course Committee, Dr. Salami, stressed the need for Muslim students and future leaders to build reputations anchored on honesty and credibility.

He urged participants to become individuals whose words are trusted and whose character reflects the teachings of Islam, whether serving as leaders or followers.
