Staff at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja were forced to evacuate their offices on Monday morning after a fire broke out in a section of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).

The blaze, which reportedly started on the top floor of the building, was noticed shortly after workers resumed duty, prompting a hurried exit by employees and occupants of nearby offices.

Eyewitnesses said the situation caused momentary panic within the complex as smoke spread through parts of the building, leading officials to move quickly to safety.

Emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene, with firefighters working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the Federal Secretariat complex.

As of press time, authorities had not confirmed the exact cause of the incident. However, preliminary information from sources suggested that a power surge might have triggered the fire.

Efforts were ongoing to fully bring the situation under control while assessments of the affected section of the building continued.
