A Mobile Court sitting in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, has sealed off an illegal mining site located at Mayo Sina in Sardauna Council.

This followed  the recent conviction of seven individuals, who were found guilty of engaging in illegal mining in the State by the court.

They were convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment and each was handed a substantial fine of N100,000.

The Kefas administration in Taraba state is working round the clock to save the state from environmental degradation as well as to protect the residents.

The Governor has moved to safeguard the State’s natural resources by recently banning mining activities in the state and inaugurating a Task Force to enforce his order.

The task force recently arraigned some defaulting miners who were convicted by a mobile court in Jalingo.

The court gave a directive that the illegal mining site used by the culprits should be sealed off.

The directive of the court is now being followed to the letter, and this illegal mining site at Mayo Sina in Sardauna Council has been shutdown.

The special court representative, Neirus Johnson insists it will

longer business as usual on the side of government and warns those involved to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

Some residents in the area are happy with the governor’s decision due to the negative effect illicit mining practices have wrought on the environment.

The chairman of Sardauna local government commends the governor for protecting their environment from pollution that cause more harm to the residents.

Governor Kefas Agbu had at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja shed more light on why he decided to clampdown all forms of mining activities in the state.

Clamping down on mining activities in Taraba State is a bold step so far taken by  Kefas administration to curtail the alarming level of environmental degradation.
