The Nigeria Labour Congress has modified its earlier request stipulating Fifty-six thousand Naira as National minimal Wage.
The Acting President of the Congress Kiri Mohammed made this known at the eleventh delegates Conference of the Nigerian Civil Servants Union, Federal Council in Abuja.
Two years ago, the NLC had called for an upward review of the national minimum wage from eighteen thousand Naira to fifty six thousand naira due to the Economic downturn in the country.
But ever since then there has been pressure on the workers’ umbrella body on the need for a further review of the earlier requested fifty six thousand Naira minimum wage, as this sum can no longer guarantee a better living for Nigerian workers.
The Union says it has submitted an upward review of their earlier demand to the Federal Government Tripartite minimal wage committee.
The present leadership of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Federal Council is insisting that the federal government failure to pay the back-log of arrears owed Civil Servants in MDAs, may lead to a strike.
Contestants at the conference were urged to take the outcome of the election in good faith and work with the winners who emerge to move the Union forward.
