A meeting between the Organised Labour team and the Government side of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige is to continue today to resolve the disagreements and prevent a showdown tomorrow.
On Monday, both teams met separately with the minister as part of efforts to resolve the lingering dispute over the consequential adjustment of the National Minimum Wage and avert the looming nationwide strike.
The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum also rose from a meeting on Sunday, in disagreement over salary adjustments on the new National Minimum Wage.
Labour is demanding 29 per cent salary increase for officers on salary grade level 7 to 14 and 24 per cent adjustment for officers on salary level 15 to 17, while the Federal Government is proposing 11 per cent salary increase for officers on level 7 to 14 and 6.5 per cent for workers on level 15 to 17.
