Nigerian Senators are alarmed by the number of deaths of their colleagues in the National Assembly in the past weeks and have asked Nigerians to join them in prayers for the parliament and their departed colleagues. The lawmakers spoke on Tuesday after returning to work from a two-week break and they quickly adjourned due to the death of Senator Mustapha Bukar and Deputy House Majority Leader, Honourable Umar Jibril.

Why are federal lawmakers experiencing sudden deaths in the National Assembly? This is the golden question on the lips of legislators as they resume from their two-week Easter break during which Senator Mustapha Bukar and Honourable Umar Jibril died just a few weeks after the earlier death of Senator Ali Wakili.
Upon resumption at Tuesday’s plenary, the atmosphere was solemn. A condolence letter sent in from President Muhammadu Buhari comforted the senators on the death of their colleagues.
The Senate immediately suspended plenary in line with parliamentary practices. After this, the leadership led senators to sign the condolence register where they eulogised the late Senator Mustapha Bukar.
The lawmakers have set aside Wednesday to hold a valedictory session in honour of the late Senator Bukar even as they pray that death will stay away from the Eight National Assembly within the few months left before their tenure ends next year.
This is just the beginning. More of them are still going to die, more especially the bad eggs. The dead they have directly and indirectly meted out to Nigerians is now on their path.
