The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared full support for the call by South-West Governors urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expedite the establishment of State Police across the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party described the demand as “timely, logical and inevitable,” insisting that only “enemies of peace” would oppose a reform designed to strengthen security at the community level.
According to the Lagos APC, the South-West has long championed modern, decentralised policing models, citing the Amotekun initiative and sustained investment in regional security as proof that locally driven systems deliver better results.
The party noted that President Tinubu has already demonstrated strong political will to modernise Nigeria’s internal security framework, and said the governors’ position aligns with the administration’s commitment to a responsive and technology-driven security architecture.
“The security challenges facing the country require multi-layered solutions. Properly designed and professionally regulated State Police will bring security closer to the people, improve intelligence gathering and deter crime in real time,” the statement said.
It added that national security must remain above politics, warning that attempts to misrepresent the debate for partisan advantage undermine public safety.
Reaffirming its support for the Renewed Hope security reforms and the united stance of South-West leaders, the Lagos APC said the establishment of State Police is overdue.
“The security of our people is non-negotiable. The time for State Police is now,” the statement concluded.
