Justice Walter Onnoghen opened his defence this morning before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The tribunal had adjourned sitting until today when the defendant who is on suspension from his duty as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, had filed a no case submission to the charges of non asset declaration brought him by the federal government.
This submission was dismissed by the tribunal, which held that the evidence given by the prosecution witnesses and the exhibit which is a statement written by Justice Onnoghen admitting that he forgot to update his asset declaration form is enough to call him to enter his defence.
At the resume proceedings, the tribunal granted Justice Onnoghen leave to subpoena a director of the CCB in Benin, Theresa Nwafor to appear before the tribunal to testify in the case.
