The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined an application by detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu seeking to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to a custodial facility within the Federal Capital Territory or neighbouring Nasarawa State.
Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, had filed an ex-parte application asking the court to compel the Federal Government or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to transfer him to the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja or the Keffi facility in Nasarawa.
In the alternative, he requested relocation to any detention centre within the court’s jurisdiction including Suleja or Keffi to enable him to properly pursue his appeal.

Justice James Omotosho, delivering a ruling on Monday, refused the request, holding that such an order cannot be granted without hearing from the Federal Government.
He instructed Kanu to convert the application into a motion on notice and serve all respondents to ensure fair hearing.
The court fixed January 27, 2026, for the hearing of the motion.
