US President, Joe Biden, has announced he is dropping out of the November 2024 Presidential Elections in the United States.
The President who has been under pressure to drop out of the race announced he is stepping down in a post on the X platform through his verified handle on Sunday evening.
The Post which he tagged “Letter To My Fellow Americans” was a one page statement where he told Americans he is dropping out of the race.
Pressure has been steadily growing for him to step down following an abysmal off colour performance in a debate with the Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump last month.
Pressure from Democrats in Congress also added to his dilemma with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer Congressional Democrat leaders also joining the growing call for him to step down and allow another candidate to represent his party in November’s Presidential contest against Donald Trump.
Centrist, Joe Manchin, also joined the call earlier on Sunday.
The withdrawal of Mr Biden now paves the way for the emergence of a new candidate for the party at the Democratic Party convention.
