The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Dahiru Muhammad, says closer collaboration between the police and the press is vital for building trust and ensuring safer communities.

He made the call in Dutse when he received members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

The Police Commissioner praised reporters for their role in public enlightenment but urged them to go beyond headlines to verify facts, counter misinformation, and use their platforms to promote peace and unity.

Journalists at the meeting, led by chapel chairman Muhammad Zangina, commended the command’s open-door policy.

They pledged to continue reporting security issues responsibly, while also holding the police to account.

Earlier, CP Dahiru met with intelligence operatives of the command.

He reminded them that intelligence is the backbone of modern policing warning that unprofessional conduct could damage public confidence.

He encouraged officers to submit timely reports, engage communities, and maintain integrity in their work.

The Jigawa Police Command believes stronger intelligence gathering, combined with credible reporting, can help bridge the gap between security agencies and citizens at a time when Nigeria faces growing security challenges across many States.
