Image result for Jerry Gana condemns probe of CJN OnnoghenThe presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Jerry Gana, has condemned the probe of Walter Onnoghen, which he believes is premeditated by the federal government.

Jerry Gana said due process should be followed, as there are laid down procedures on how the Chief Justice of Nigeria can be removed.

While he agrees that corruption must be fought ruthlessly, he said the government must not give the impression that the fight is protecting those who belong to the circle of those piloting the affairs of the country.

CCT adjourns

Meanwhile, the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria will continue next Tuesday after lawyers debated on the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct tribunal to try Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The CCT ruled that Justice Onnoghen be served in person and is expected to appear at the January 22nd adjourned date.

Though absent in court, the CJN was represented by 47 senior advocates of Nigeria and 43 lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun.

In its opening statement, the defence team challenged the jurisdiction of the CCT in hearing charges of false assets declaration brought against Justice Onnoghen.

But the Prosecution counsel led Aliyu Umar insisted that the CJN be present in court before objections can be raised as to whether the court lacks jurisdiction or not.

The defence counsel also argued that the accused was not personally served as the prosecution handed the charge papers to the personal assistant to the CJN.
