The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk has expressed the urgent need for NEMA to have an appropriate office space in order to meet up with emergencies that may crop up across the country She made her views felt when inspecting the renovation of the NEMA headquarters office in Abuja.

The National Emergency Management Agency is the body in charge of emergency response in Nigeria

At the moment, the agency does not have a befitting office and has affected its overall productivity

NEMA has a call centre and also manages the Nigerian Mission Control Centre equipped with COSPAS SARSAT, a space based technology for distress alerts and emergency rescue initiative

A befitting space for these all important emergency response initiatives has been a challenge the agency has had to deal with over the years

The Director General of the agency says even access to his other colleagues has become an herculean task

This is why the Agency has undertaken the renovation and expansion of its offices.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, who supervises the Agency has come to inspect ongoing work.

The DG is certain the expansion being undertaken in the office, will still not adequately serve the over 300 staff strength they have at the Headquarters.
