The Federal Government has been commended for the fulfilment of the pledge to give houses to the Victorious Super Eagles team of 1994.

Discussants on the TVC News Programme, Journalists Hangout, made the commendation while reacting to the news of the handing over of the keys to the houses to members of the team.

Babajide Kolade-Otitoju while leading the discussion said though the gesture is coming rather late, it is a good thing that the heroes have been rewarded even coming 28 years after.

He added that the promise of a nation to its heroes must always be fulfilled by the nation so that more Nigerians will be willing and ready to sacrifice and serve the nation.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for having the will and showing the leadership needed to deliver the Houses to the players.

Going further he said the fact the Ministry of Works and Housing was able to deliver on the Houses to the former Super Eagles players even outside of Abuja in places like Oyo State for Mutiu Adepoju popularly called Headmaster and Ike Shorunmu also known as Ike Anobi and for Others in places of their chosen is a welcome development.

The team Doctor, Doctor Amoo, according to him was also given his own house and was represented by His wife at the handing over ceremony.

He added that the government is also doing this for the Super Eagles just like it did for the payment of Pensions of several parastatals of the Federal Government.

For his part, Mayor Akinpelu, said the fact the fulfilment is coming 28 years after the initial promise was paid is an indictment on the activities of government with people adopting a Laissez Faire attitude to addressing pledges made are fulfilled.

He added that for even the Coach of the Super Eagles then Clemens Westerhof who changed the face of Nigerian football is now a very old man can get the House is a great decision.

He said the decision will also help earn the trust of the citizenry in government.

Babajide Kolade-Otitoju added that the former assistant Coach of the team, Bonfrere Jo, had also reminded the Kogi State Governor of the promise and this got to the President who also reminded the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who had worked on the fulfilment of the pledge before now and was able to deliver the houses.
