The Nigerian Women Trust Fund has flagged off sensitisation programmes for women in the nation’s capital impressing on them the need to understand the worth of their permanent Voter cards.

The group also sought to drum support for women on the ballot paper to enhance female representation in governance.

Ninety eight days to the February 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria and political parties and their candidates are forging ahead with campaigns.

The campaigns have in some instances been characterised by violence.

Women of voting age were brought together to educate them on the power of their voter cards and the need to use them wisely.

They were urged to caution their children against being used as agents of violence and destabilisation.

The group is unhappy with the low number of women on INEC’s list of candidates.

The central message was that women should support women so as to increase their stake in governance

More importantly is the need for the electorate to shun vote buying and ask critical questions from the candidates before casting their ballots.

The program is an opportunity for the women to ask questions and get responses

The outreach is the beginning of intense sensitisation and awareness campaigns targeted at bringing out women to exercise their franchise to make a meaningful impact on who gets to be elected into offices in next year’s general election.
