Governor of Enugu state Peter Mbah has approved the payment of N80,000 as the new minimum wage for the state civil servants..
The agreement was reached after the state Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, submitted its reports to the state Government for implementation.
Members of the joint minimum wage review committee comprising members of NLC, TUC, AG, joint committee and ALGON converged for a meeting on Enugu to get the final review results, after submitting their recommendations.
Governor Peter Mbah did not delay to tell the state workforce what they have been waiting to hear.
He commended the committee and civil servants for their cooperation with his administration.
Being moved by apparent economic reality, supported by his campaign promise to end hunger and achieve zero poverty in the state, Governor Mbah reels out his recommendation.
He reemphasised the commitment of his administration to lead a vibrant and productive workforce.
The elated Trade Union executives,’ appreciated the Governor’s efforts for moving higher than the national minimum wage.
For the Local Government Organisation, ALGON promised to compliment the state government efforts by ensuring council workers too are paid the same minimum wage.
The announcement of the new minimum wage sparked wide jubilations as workers are singing with joy to welcome the new Salary scheme.
The Governor assured that the payment will take effect immediately.
