The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital has dismissed claims of staff intimidation by the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Ondo State Council, following the union’s notice of withdrawal of services.

In a statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Tope Fayehun, made available to TVC News on Sunday, the hospital described the claims against its leadership as unfounded and misleading, insisting that its operations strictly adhere to established standards guiding federal teaching hospitals across Nigeria.

The management reiterated its commitment to staff welfare, quality healthcare delivery, and repositioning the institution to meet global best practices.

The hospital stressed that all decisions taken under the current leadership align with efforts to improve service delivery for patients who seek care from within and outside Ondo State.

The statement specifically denied allegations of arbitrary staff removals, forceful transfers, department closures, unjust demotions, and intimidation of workers. According to the management, these claims do not reflect the transparent and collaborative processes currently in place within the hospital.

It noted that before the hospital’s takeover by the Federal Government, the facility faced significant operational challenges, which contributed to medical tourism and forced many residents to seek treatment elsewhere.

The management explained that since the transition to a federal tertiary institution, deliberate steps have been taken, under the guidance of the Federal Ministry of Health, to upgrade infrastructure, improve coordination, and strengthen regulatory oversight.

While calling for calm, the hospital urged members of NUAHP to reconsider their planned industrial action and instead engage in ongoing dialogue with the management to resolve any concerns.

The statement added that the hospital remains open to constructive engagement and amicable resolution, assuring stakeholders of its dedication to building a healthcare institution that can compete with leading teaching hospitals nationwide.
