The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has broken new ground with a record of six billion digital views across social media platforms during the Competition.

The 2025 TotalEnergies AFCON recorded several milestones across digital engagement, sponsorships, and goal-scoring feats, cementing the tournament’s status as a formidable global force.

Six billion digital views

In a Wednesday statement published on the CAF website, the 2025 TotalEnergies AFCON in Morocco is now the most viewed football continental competition, generating an extraordinary 5.2 billion video views.

According to CAF, these numbers underline the tournament’s growing global influence and the unmatched passion of African football fans.

CAF disclosed that “one of the biggest areas of growth for CAF and the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 has been with the Diaspora community, where CAF has attracted millions of new audiences and users,” stressing that “the milestone positions Africa’s flagship football event at the very top of global digital engagement, surpassing every comparable continental tournament in history.”

The statement revealed that the tournament was driven by the fans, with a total of 285 million engagements recorded, reflecting an unprecedented level of interaction and emotional investment.

TikTok emerged as the beating heart of the tournament’s digital ecosystem, recording a total of one million fan-generated videos created under the hashtag #TotalEnergiesAFCON2025, turning the competition into a cultural movement that went far beyond the pitch.

121 goals in a single tournament

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 edition achieved a new goal-scoring feat in the competition’s history after recording 121 goals in the tournament.

In a statement cited by TVC News on the Confederation of African Football official website, the landmark figure surpasses the previous record of 119 goals, which was scored during the 2023 edition of the competition in Cote d’Ivoire and underlines the attacking intent, technical quality and growing confidence of teams across the continent.

According to the statement, before that, 102 goals were scored at the 2019 tournament in Egypt when the tournament was expanded from 16 to 24 teams.

The statement reads, “Several of the continent’s heavyweights played leading roles in the scoring surge. Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire all showcased attacking depth, while emerging talents matched established stars for influence and impact.”

Among the highest contributors of goals to the impressive scoring record are some of Africa’s top players, including Brahim Diaz of Morocco, who leads the scoring charts with five goals.

90 Per Cent Surge In Commercial Revenue

The Confederation of African Football disclosed that the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has achieved the highest commercial success in the history of African football, recording over 90 per cent increase in revenues.

In a statement cited by TVC News on its official website, CAF stated that the achievement was driven by expanded sponsorship deals, broader media rights distribution and entry into new markets, particularly in Asia.

The statement reads, “The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 is now undoubtedly the most successful commercial story in the history of African football, as the commercial success of the Competition has led to over 90% increase in the CAF revenues for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

“This is driven by a significant increase in the commercial partners of CAF, an increase in media rights distribution and also CAF venturing into new markets, most notably the Far East, China, Japan, while also consolidating traditional markets.”

CAF attributed the surge to the growth in commercial sponsors, saying, “The growth has been matched by a steady expansion of the sponsor portfolio. The number of commercial partners increased from nine during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 to 17 during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
